Sephora Play Unboxing | October 2016

I’ve tried a ton of beauty subscription boxes from Ipsy to Birchbox to BoxyCharm to PopSugar to Glossybox… You get the point. After having a few disappointing months with Ipsy and Birchbox, which are both 10 dollars a month, I decided to try out Sephora Play, which is a beauty subscription at the same price. What I liked about the Sephora bag is that it only features products that are sold in Sephora, meaning you won’t get any drug store or indie brands you might not be looking for (because Ipsy won’t stop giving me Jelly Pong products!)!

The October Bag’s theme is “Lipstix & Chill” and is actually a pretty cute bag. Inside this month is 6 mini or trial sized products.

1. Estee Edit Flash Photo Gloss

The first product, made by Estee Lauder, is just a basic gloss with no real color, so I wasn’t too excited. However, it actually is clear with cool blue undertones to make your teeth appear brighter! It’s supposed to work with any shade of lipstick under it, so that’s a pretty cool product to try out! Full size is 20 dollars.

2. Smashbox Always On Matte Liquid Lipstick

This matte lip from Smashbox is in the shade “Driver’s seat”, which I’m totally into. It’s definitely a fall color, which is nude with some orange hints to it that (swatch at the end of this blog post). It’s water resistant and non-feathering, and it’s always cool to get a Smashbox product! Full size is 24 dollars.

3. Yes, I Do Skin Dew Mist from Farmacy

Farmacy is a more expensive brand, and I’m definitely excited to see this product in my bag! It’s a facial mist to use as a setting spray, or just to brighten up makeup through the day. It’s from a company that focuses on skincare, so you know it’s going to be a good quality product. Full size is 44 dollars.

4. Drunk Elephant Night Serum

I heard about the Drunk Elephant company through Kathleen Lights and she raved about them! So I’m definitely excited to try out a super expensive brand and see if I want to invest in their products down the road. I’ll probably only get about three uses out of the small bottle, but it’s definitely something I’m looking forward to trying! The full size is 90 DOLLARS! Crazy, but now I’ll know if I actually want to try the whole brand out!

5. Madam CJ Walker CoCoNut Oil

I love Coconut oil for my hair! I know it’s good for skin and nails as well, but I always use it in my hair. My tub of it is huge though, so I only use it when at home. This little dropper bottle will be perfect for when I’m spending the night with family and still want to have some oil on hand to keep my hair moisturized! The full size is 26 dollars.

6. Derek Lam 10 Crosby Silent St. Perfume

Now, I know most people don’t want a little perfume sample. However, they’re perfect to keep in your purse for on the go! In my opinion, this one smells really good for the season. It’s a soft blend of white musks and subtle florals and is meant to evoke “a calm moment amongst the chaos on NYC”. The full size perfume is 95 dollars.

So, overall, I’m really impressed with my first Sephora Play bag. I don’t want to jinx anything, but as of now, I’m definitely leaving Ipsy and Birchbox behind and sticking with this one for a while!
